Test Cell Count Mapping

Sponsor: John Deere Power Systems

Team: Buckoustics

Coach: Ed Red

Students: Ben Jackson, Mike Mohlman, David Olligschlager, Scott Reynolds, Robert Shirley

To improve sound testing on John Deere engines, Team Buckoustics created an automated sound tester. Previously the testing was done by placing microphones on various spots on the motor, leaving the room, and then turning the engine on. The process was very tedious and could take weeks to complete.

The new robot interface developed by the Capstone team allows testing spots to be chosen remotely from a computer and enables all of the testing to go on in an adjacent room. The new program and tooling will allow John Deere to analyze the engines more quickly and efficiently. The new machine can assess an engine in less than one day.
