Arborless Coil Forming

Sponsor: Burr Oak Tool, Inc.

Team: FlexTech

Coach: Ken Chase

Students: Grant Daniels, Daniel Madsen, Jenni Miles, Aaron Rowe, Prasad Weerakoon

FlexTech designed an innovative system for bending finned coils commonly used as heat exchangers in refrigeration and AC units. The former system utilized an arbor to produce a constant bend radius in the coil, but a new design was needed in order to supply a different bend radius. The new system eliminates the need for an arbor, thus reducing changeover time and decreasing the amount of fin damage and tooling required.
