A team of eight BYU mechanical engineering students spent several hundred hours conceptualizing and fabricating every aspect of the car, from writing computer programs that monitor engine performance to picking the paint color. This year the BYU racer placed in the top ten in the design category.
The new car weighs approximately 435 lbs. and has 83 horse power. The car can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds with 59 pounds-per-foot torque. Other features include:
600 cc Turbocharged engine
Carbon fiber drive shafts
Steel flex-plates in place of CV joints
Mono-shock suspension
Floating rotors with a new ultra light weight hub design
Electronic shifting
